MITTENDRIN COTTBUS
Mittendrin Cottbus is a church project in the beautiful city of Cottbus. We want to contribute to the flourishing of our city, and it is our hope that the beauty of God would be displayed here.
Mittendrin is a vibrant and young Protestant church project located in the heart of Cottbus —right at the center of life, as the name suggests. Together, we seek to explore the Christian faith, share meaningful experiences, and connect our beliefs with everyday life. As a community of Christians and those curious about faith, we aim to actively engage with the city of Cottbus, building connections and contributing positively to society.
The Beauty of God
As a church we dream of being part of a city that is flourishing and where the beauty of God is displayed. A place where people find acceptance, where they discover direction and purpose, and where they experience the freedom that comes through the good news of Jesus Christ.
The Beauty of God
Captivated by the good news of Jesus Christ as a church we want to…
… be a true community where everyone is welcome.
… contribute to the flourishing of Cottbus.
… be a church for people who have had little or nothing to do with God, faith or church.
… take steps closer to Jesus together.
… be family friendly.
… inspire, shape and start other new church projects.

Our Foundation
The Bible
When seeking the best and most helpful information, one goes to the most reliable sources. We believe that God has given the Bible as his word to humanity. This is the foundation of our faith, our life, and this church project.
The Good News of Jesus Christ
The Good News of Jesus Christ
The good news of Jesus Christ is at the heart of Christianity, and therefore our beliefs. It is the fantastic message that God loves us unconditionally and takes a personal interest in us. This shapes our identity, and fills our lives with hope and freedom.
Living to Honour God
We believe that the greatest thing we can live for is to honour God. This means is that our lives are centred not primarily on ourselves, but on God and other people, trusting that at the same time we personally will not come up short.
Prayer
Prayer is a personal conversation with God. It’s where we experience Him and get to know Him. We believe prayer has the power to transform today.
Our Story so far
The church planting project began in April 2018 when two families moved to Cottbus to establish a new church community. In November 2018, a launch team of 15 people came together to explore how a gospel-centered church for the city of Cottbus could be shaped. Since October 2019, we have been holding regular worship services, meeting during the week in “sofa groups” at people’s homes, and getting involved in various initiatives across the city.
In June 2023, we rented the mittendrin_Room for the City at Spremberger Straße 29, where we now hold our worship services and offer a welcoming space for the city. The church project is led by two pastors, Aaron Köhler and Tobias Klement.
Part of a bigger movement
As a church, we desire to inspire, support, and establish further church planting projects in Cottbus, Brandenburg, and across eastern Germany. In 2022, Joel Ernst joined our church planting project as a trainee for two years. In July 2024, he moved to Weimar to start a similar church project to mittendrin with a new team. We are thrilled to remain closely connected with Joel, supporting him in his church planting work and being inspired by his passion and dedication.
Our hope is to continue training new church planters in the years to come—people who will boldly pave new paths in the region. As part of a church planting movement in eastern Germany, we are connected to the church planting network City to City Dach.
